We are 1! It’s hard to believe that just one year ago, we were taking our first steps as a business. Since then, we’ve come a long way and achieved so much. In this post, we’ll take a look back at our journey so far and share some of the highlights from our first year in business. Join us as we celebrate this milestone and look forward to many more years of growth and success.
MDH is an acronym of our Company Founder Gordon’s three children’s names: Madeleine, Dominic & Harry. The business was set up to incorporate our core values which are Community, Charity, Excellence, Responsiveness & Development. We prioritise building a strong community among our candidates, clients, and internal team and believe it’s the foundation for successful partnerships. Charity cultivates a sense of purpose and strengthens connections. We strive for excellence in all aspects and continuously seek improvement. We aim to provide quick solutions while ensuring workers feel supported. By investing in staff development, we foster continuous learning and deliver exceptional service. Every, decision we make as a business today is measured against our founding values.
On the 30th of May, MDH Recruitment was born. Our first 2 clients came on board that very day and by the 6th of June, our first operators were in employment. Things progressed from there very quickly. By the end of July, we were added to our first major Preferred Supplier List by a major manufacturing business in Lanarkshire.
In our early stages, the new business carefully selected its first hire, searching for someone who embodied both expertise and passion. Lauren Smith proved to be a major success, seamlessly integrating into the company culture and quickly grasping the intricacies of their role. Laurens contributions went beyond expectations, driving innovation, fostering strong client relationships, and achieving remarkable results. With Laurens exceptional skills and dedication, this first hire became the catalyst for the business’s rapid growth, setting a high bar for future team members and solidifying the foundation for a prosperous future.
In August, we moved into our first office. This was only short-lived as we needed more space and moved into an even bigger office due to more hires within the business. Moving to a bigger office signified the rapid growth and success that the company has experienced in a remarkably short span of time. The ability to expand our physical space within such a limited timeframe is a testament to MDH’s strategic planning, efficient execution, and robust business model.
By the end of the year, we were involved in the CR Smith ‘Handpicked’ employability program, where we delivered many employability sessions to high school pupils. These sessions provide insights into career paths, interview techniques, CV building, and professional etiquette. By instilling a proactive mindset, fostering self-awareness, and developing critical soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, our employability sessions empower students to make informed decisions about their future and enhance their chances of securing meaningful employment. These sessions also help bridge the gap between academia and the real world, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands and expectations of the professional arena.
In March, then April, we had the pleasure of hosting two incredible days of football corporate hospitality with Celtic and Rangers, and it was an unforgettable experience for our guests, which included clients, candidates, friends, and family. In March, we enjoyed a thrilling match between Celtic and against Hibs. Our guests were treated to VIP seating, fantastic catering, and exclusive access to behind-the-scenes areas, making it a truly immersive football experience. The second game was equally fantastic, with a match between Rangers and St Mirren, that had everyone on their feet. Our guests had the opportunity to meet some of the players, take photos, and even get autographs. It was an absolute delight to see the joy and excitement on their faces as they soaked in the atmosphere of the game.
In April, we were thrilled to win Best New Recruitment Consultancy at the S1 jobs Recruitment awards! This prestigious award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team in providing exceptional recruitment services to our clients and candidates.
On the 1st of June, we were honoured to sponsor The Herald Higher Education Awards held at the Raddison Blu in Glasgow. Gordon was on the judging panel, where he had the privilege to see first-hand the extraordinary things that are going on across Scotland’s Colleges & Universities. Both he and Account Manager Liane Fox who joined the business in February presented awards to the worthy winners. Liane’s presentation even made it into a national newspaper!
Back to business: on the day of our first birthday, we had officially placed a total of 100 long-term unemployed men and women from Lanarkshire and surrounding areas into sustainable, permanent jobs. That was a great reason to celebrate. On our first birthday, it was also important to remember the value of giving back to our community. We believe that our company has a responsibility to use our resources and influence to make a positive impact on the people and community around us. Whether it’s through charitable donations, volunteer work or simply setting a good example for our own children, we are committed to doing our part to make the world a better place. One of our donations was to Baby Bank Scotland. Baby Bank Scotland support families experiencing financial hardship by providing them with baby and child essentials to meet their families’ needs. We donated £1000 and 10 buggies to Hamilton’s Baby Bank Scotland and our own wee Harry helped deliver these personally!
Being big sports fans and parents ourselves we really keen to sponsor a local children’s football team and decided to do this with St Michaels Football team who are based in the Parkhead are of Glasgow. We supplied them with new football strips, goals and footballs. Parkhead has one of the highest areas of deprivation in the country and St Michaels is a very diverse school who are proud to serve their community. The school runs two football clubs: one for boys and one for girls every Wednesday (around 60-70 kids attend). The boys take part in weekly games vs local schools in a friendly system at Glasgow Green (Mondays 4-5pm). There is no team in Parkhead and many of the children are priced out of the nearest clubs. They were using kits that are around 6 years old and sadly we found out that their portable goalposts had been stolen and they were reduced to using tires each week. MDH donated 80 new footballs and three sets of portable goalposts. The team is for both girls and boys from ages 9 to 13. We thought it would be great for the kids to design their own kits so asked the school to put out a competition. We have selected our top 4 and we are currently in talks with a supplier to get these designed and made for them. We think you will agree that the kids have all done a great job! We will honour the winners by incorporating their name on the strips above the school badge. Well Done to Freyha, Sainabou, Dominic & Elim!
While attending the Herald Higher Education Awards, we were deeply moved by the work carried out at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. This hospice provides outstanding care for children and young adults with life-limiting or terminal conditions. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for their patients and all services are provided free of charge to patients, their families, and carers. The thought and design that has gone into every aspect of the hospice is truly remarkable and the staff are amazing. We were honoured to donate £1200 on the night of the awards and a further donation of £15,000 on June 2nd. We are also proud to be a sponsor of several upcoming business lunches and networking events and look forward to partnering with the charity for the remainder of the year.
As we reflect on our first year in business, we are filled with gratitude for all that we have accomplished and for the support of our clients, candidates, and internal colleagues. With year one done. We move into year two for our business as a stronger, smarter and proven business. We are proud of what we have achieved but know that this is just the beginning. We are excited to continue growing and evolving as a company and look forward to many more years of success. Thank you for being a part of our journey – here’s to an even brighter future!
